Kendal A. Oden, Mixed Media Painter

Artist Kendal Oden sees himself as a creator and visionary, marrying traditional elements with non-traditional elements. His works give birth to ideas and concepts full of color, life and depth.

His creations fit into two distinct categories: abstract art and landscape scenes. Kendal gravitates toward abstract art because of the free expressionism and boundless resources used in this genre. There are no rules, he explains. When I put the brush down, that's when it's complete. His vivid canvas displays are often created with lavish use of acrylic and ink.

His mastery leads to artwork that is illustrious, arresting and engaging. Whether on canvas or wood, each design emerges as a one-of-a-kind piece that shows color, depth and extraordinary shapes. Kendal's landscape work shies away from traditional illustrations and borders on fantastical. Bright colors, colossal rocks and resplendent waters, Kendal exaggerates his conceptions, leaving anyone who views them feeling like they are a part of the painting itself.

As a youngster, Kendal found himself drawn to art. I literally picked up a pen one day and started to draw, he explains. Realizing his gift, Kendal's mother immediately enrolled him in extracurricular art programs that lead to a mentoring relationship with Tristian Shane, a notable artist at Marvel Comics. His inherent abilities led to attending Art and Design High School and the prestigious New York City Tech. Upon graduation, Kendal had a collection of work that was exhibition ready.

At the age of 26, Kendal embarked on his first show, receiving rave reviews and selling over half of his presented pieces. Being celebrated for doing what I love to do, was an exhilarating feeling. I knew then that art was my life and my passion.

Kendal's artwork transforms life experiences to a moment and the moment into canvassed art. Essence of Colour, his signature collection, opened to the public in November 2003.

His contemporary works allows him to build an art foundation for prospective artisans and beyond. A firm believer in reciprocity, Kendal plans to start an art foundation for children, which encourages mentorship and creative art instruction.

I just want to make art for others to enjoy and leave a positive impression on people.
